Sandals (caligae)

The Roman footwear is believed to be one of the reasons why the Roman army was so victorious over the centuries. They were open to allow the feet to breath on long marches. They were made out of multiple layers of leather and had spikes on the soles to provide the Romans a strong stance and good balance on any type of surface. The spikes were also used for attack and would provide a very painfull kick.
